| Coordination Compounds Effective Atomic Number Concept |
Concept of Effective Atomic Number (EAN); In coordination compounds the central metal atoms or metal ions lose electrons as well as gain electronis. In order to gain that many number of electrons which an inert gas or noble gas has to attain stability - example K4 [ Fe (CN)6 ] in which Fe has effective atomic number of 36 (original atomic number 26 - 2 electrons lost to attain Fe(II) and + 6 * 2 electrons received from CN as part of coordination ( where 6 is the coordination number of Fe ), thereby attaining a stable effective atomic number; Disassociation of compounds in solution and determination of conductance (concept that conductance would be proportional to the number of ions including both + and - radicals)
|
| Coordination Compounds Examples Part 1 |
Review of problems on topics discussed thus far on coordination compounds, ligands, nomenclature, EAN, conductance
